Create an aluminum-air rechargeable battery.
An electric potential is created between the aluminum and the binchotan containing salt water. The aluminum oxidizes and dissolves to become the negative electrode that emits electrons. The dissolved aluminum seems to accumulate at the interface with the charcoal as an oxide. Also, the aluminum foil is torn apart with many small holes. For this reason, the battery works for a short time. The voltage is about 0.6 volts.
If a stainless steel mesh is used for the positive electrode on the side that collects electricity from the binchotan, an electromotive force of about 0.2 V is generated between the charcoal and the stainless steel. The charcoal is the negative and the stainless steel mesh is the positive electrode. The stainless steel is the electrode on the side that takes in oxygen and passes it on, while the charcoal is on the side that receives oxygen and is oxidized.
The charcoal appears to work differently at the aluminum interface and at the interface with the stainless steel mesh. The charcoal works almost identically to ink and salt water hardened with agar. It also works similarly to a sponge with iron salt or salt water on it and hardened with agar.
Aluminum ion batteries are said to be one of the multivalent ion batteries, which have more valence than alkali metal ions such as lithium ions and can increase energy density.
The electrolyte in aluminum batteries is highly corrosive. The electrolyte used in aluminum batteries is highly corrosive, even corroding gold. A battery in which kimchi is placed on top of gold plating sandwiched between aluminum foil will melt the aluminum foil and corrode the gold plating. In a battery in which copper and aluminum are sandwiched together, the copper side becomes green-blue and corrodes.
Not only chemical corrosion, but also electrochemical local battery action oxidizes aluminum and other metals.
There are many problems with making your own batteries, and you can't solve them all by yourself. There is no special material available. Unless you have your own original point of view and materials, you will not be able to keep up with other battery researchers.
The goal of batteries has been to create small and thin batteries. A lightweight, high-density battery. The goal of aluminum batteries is to create cheap, high-capacity batteries. Thinness is advantageous for capacitors, but not necessarily necessary for batteries. On the other hand, thick batteries can be hindered by unused active materials. Even in thick batteries, the active material used for reaction seems to be only a small portion in contact with the interface.
A 0.8 V battery can be made from aluminum, charcoal, and stainless steel. If the battery can be repeatedly charged and discharged with high capacity, it will be a success. First, we will try to make a clean battery and charge it. We will evaluate the charge-discharge characteristics of the battery and observe what changes appear in the battery.
In a lithium-ion battery, lithium iron phosphate serves as the positive electrode and graphite as the negative electrode. The lithium iron phosphate takes in lithium ions, and the redox reaction that desorbs lithium ions from the graphite is used for discharge.
A battery with an aluminum foil anode, graphite, and iron phosphate cathode, in that order, would be inexpensive and provide high performance.
To prevent the aluminum foil from falling apart, the aluminum foil should be plated during the first charge of the rechargeable battery. Plating iron phosphorus. If the chemical states of iron and phosphorus are different, such as the oxygen-rich cathode side and the reduced anode side, a potential difference is likely to be created between the iron phosphorus on the cathode and the iron phosphorus on the anode.
The outline of the aluminum battery is gradually becoming clear. I think zinc is more stable than aluminum. We would like to approach that as well.
